A Clinical Study of Ibuprofen on the Uppre Respiratory Infection



Abstract
Ibuprofen (2-4-isobutyl phenyl propionic acid, Brufene) is a new drug known to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects which was developed recently in England. According to the report of Adams on its pharmacology, it has more potent degree of anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects than those of acetylsalycilic acid or steroid, and it has less side reaction than these drugs.
The authors have carried out a clinical study on the effect of Ibuprofen on the 45 patients who had upper respiratory infection.
The results are summarized as follows;
1. Ibuprofen had effect on 36(80%), out of 45 total cases, on 15 (78.9%), out of 19 common cold cases, on 15 (78.6%), out of 14 acute tonsillitis cases on 5 (83.3%), out of 6 acute pharyngitis cases.
2. Ibuprofen revealed minimally side effects such as G. I. iritation sign or skin rash on only 4(8.9%) of 45
